host descriptionPatient with end-stage renal disease on hemodialysis and a history of total knee replacement surgery with revision, tibial/fibular fracture with fixation and exposed hardware to ankle, presents with acute knee pain. Clinical course was complicated by staphylococcal bacteremia originating from ankle wound and hardware with low clinical suspicion for septic arthritis in knee or central line infection. Medical management consisted of vancomycin. Patient was stabilized and discharged to a skilled nursing facility. Duration of bacteremia: 3 days.
