River Ganges is one of the major Rivers of India. Due to rapid increase in human population, industrial and other anthropocentric activities p-nitrophenol (PNP) might have been released into the River Ganges water from various sources. According to USEPA, PNP is a priority pollutant and is reported to be carcinogenic and mutagenic. Bacteria mediated bioremedition process offers a pollution free, eco-friendly, cost effective approach towards removal of PNP from Gangetic water sample. Pseudomonas sp. strain PNPG3 was isolated by enrichment culture technique and is capable of degrading PNP.
