The Thorny skate is a north American cat species, and has been a model species to in conservation studies to prevent mammal species extinction. It is native to North and SouthEast Atlantic Ocean. This sample is being used as part of the G10K Vertebrate Genomes Project. The sample was collected by Jeff Kneebone Anderson Cabot Center for Ocean Life, and the genome from it supported by Gavin Naylor at Florida State University.
