seawater was pumped into a 500 L carboy, brought ashore, subsequently filtered through 10 μm - and 3 μm - pore-size polycarbonate filters and finally filtered onto 0.2 μm pore-size polycarbonate filter, frozen at -80°C. This sample refers to the 0.2 - 3 μm fraction
