The aim of this study is to acquire extensive genome sequence information on two species of rodent malaria parasite, one of which has not been examined previously (P.vinkei) and the other that has a number of distinct lines and isolates (P. yoelii) to understand better how sequence diversity may affect protein function. The focus will be on gene families, including those coding for the MSP-1 complex but paying particular attention to the families encoding (a) the Py235adhesion proteins, which are members of the RH family; and (b) PyEBP, homologous to the PfEBP and Duffy binding protein (of P. vivax and P. knowlesi) families This data is part of a pre-publication release.
