To assemble the Y chromosomes of bonobo and Sumatran orangutan, we generated short and long read sequencing data for bonobo and orangutan, which was further used to study the evolution of the great ape Y chromosomes. We also merged the two existing gorilla Y assemblies (GCA_900199665 and GCA_001484535.2) to generate a higher-quality draft gorilla Y assembly. We have generated a new gorilla Y assembly via implementing the sequences from the assembly GCA_900199665, which corrected the biases introduced by whole genome amplification of DNA, to the assembly GCA_001484535.2, previously generated by our group.
