As a result, they are involved in neuronal migration, supporting dendrite elongation, and regulating microtubules during mitotic metaphase. Note that Tau is involved in neurofibrillary tangle formation in Alzheimer's disease and some other dementias. This family features a C-terminal microtubule binding repeat that contains a conserved KXGS motif.
