BCADC catalyzes the oxidative decarboxylation of 4-methyl-2-oxopentanoate, 3-methyl-2-oxopentanoate and 3-methyl-2-oxobutanoate (branched chain 2-oxo acids derived from the transamination of leucine, valine and isoleucine).
