The coding region has been updated to extend the N-terminus. The use of an alternative upstream start codon, which appears to be rodent-specific, would result in a protein that is 8 aa longer at the N-terminal. The better conserved downstream AUG has a stronger Kozak signal than the uAUG, so it is possible that the downstream AUG may sometimes be used due to leaky scanning. No experimental evidence exists to show which AUG is preferentially used in vivo. |
