This CCDS representation uses the 5'-most in-frame start codon found in the transcript. It should be noted that this start codon has a weak Kozak signal, and its conservation is restricted to primate species, squirrel, rock hyrax and armadillo. Two better conserved potential start codons with stronger Kozak signals are located two and five codons downstream, respectively. It is possible that leaky scanning by ribosomes would allow one of the downstream start codons to be used some of the time. There is no experimental evidence indicating which start codon is preferentially used in vivo. |
